Multifocal IOLs are designed with multiple focusing properties. This means the lens can focus near, far, and in between, which can eliminate the need for reading glasses.  These lenses offer the highest level of independence from glasses.  Patients may still be more comfortable with reading glasses for some activities, sitting down and reading a book for an hour, in low light conditions or for very fine print.  The lens excels at quick visual activities like reading a price tag, marking a score card or reading a menu without glasses.  Some patients may experience some glare and halos when driving at night during the first 2-3 months after surgery.  Please see the video for more info.
